7. End-point dosimetry
When handling radioactive elements, or in cases such as interventional radiography (surgery followed by X-rays), the hands can be particularly exposed. For extremity dosimetry, we generally use rings or bracelets incorporating TLDs. The energy response curve for LiF (one of the most interesting materials for this application) shows an overestimation of almost 50% at photon energies of around 50 keV, which must be taken into account, corresponding to the X-ray range.
Some electronic personal dosimeters, such as the DMC2000, can be supplied with a silicon diode for extremity dosimetry. In this case, you benefit from the advantages of operational dosimetry (on-line reading of dose or dose rate, alarms).
