4. Heart fusion
Although the probability of core meltdown is extremely low, it is taken into account in the design of KERENA™. Safety provisions are in place to be able to control this accident and limit its consequences, so that they would remain limited within the perimeter of the power plant, without requiring large-scale actions in the vicinity, such as evacuation or relocation of populations.
Early core meltdown due to a plant-internal event involving a loss of primary coolant is only possible if all available means (feedwater pumps, high-pressure injection pumps of the reactor water purification system, low-pressure coolant injection and passive reflooding systems) to replenish the reactor vessel with coolant have failed.
