Nuclear reactors for naval propulsion

The same radiation protection regulations apply to nuclear-powered ships and land-based facilities (see article on Radiation protection principles and standards).

Radiation sources are the same for the naval propulsion PWR as for the nuclear power plant PWR (see Activation and protection article).

Operating conditions include

• short interventions close to the reactor during operation;

• maintenance operations ;

• the transition from an accident situation to a safe state and its long-term maintenance.
