3. Packaging study
The nuclear safety functions of a packaging are criticality control, containment, radiation protection and heat dissipation. However, there are many other constraints, which need to be clearly defined with the customer and/or users. The packaging will represent an optimum to be found between all the following, non-limiting aspects:
the physico-chemical nature of radioactive material ;
radiological activity and spectrum;
the manufacturability of the concept and the cost of materials ;
easy decontamination, no traps ;
maintainability, use of standard...
