1.1 Thermometry – Calorimetry
Thermodynamics is a young science, which initially involved two complementary approaches to thermal or heat energy:
thermometry ;
calorimetry.
Thermometry, or the measurement of temperature T, was later recognized as the intensive variable of thermal energy.
Calorimetry, or measurement of the quantity of heat Q, is the variable associated with the extensive aspect of thermal energy.
