On the European market since the 1980s , food supplements are subject to evolving legislation.

They are subject to the regulations governing agricultural raw materials and foodstuffs.

Since 2002, they have also been subject to their own legislation. A solid legal arsenal regulates food supplements, the founding text of which is Directive 2002/46/EC of the European Parliament, giving food supplements their own status and a strict framework.
