Photovoltaic electricity is developed and deployed precisely to reduce the ecological footprint, particularly the carbon footprint of the energy sector, but not only. The photovoltaic industry's "emblematic" ecological label obliges it to be "exemplary" in terms of "sustainability" in the full sense of the term, both environmental and societal. And yet, like all technological achievements, PV systems generate impacts that are sometimes criticized. In particular, since solar energy is diffuse and sparse, capturing and converting it requires considerable surface area and quantities of materials over long periods of time.
