1. Classification of the main types of absorbers

Figure 1 shows the different types of gas-liquid absorbers used in industry. Their main characteristics, i.e. dispersed phase fractions, interfacial areas, gas-side and liquid-side material transfer coefficients, fields of use and application examples are listed for information in Table 1 according to [1][2] . These different absorbers are classed, in the conventional way, according to liquid retentionε L (volume of liquid per unit volume of reactor):
