ABSTRACT
Thermally activated batteries, commonly called "thermal batteries" are batteries activated by the combustion of pyrotechnic compositions. They can remain permanently installed on the systems to be fed without capacity loss by self discharge due to their complete inertia at the non-activated state. Once activated, they must be used immediately and cannot be reused. This article is fully dedicated to the description of the electrochemical lithium/ iron disulfide Li/FeS2 system.

INTRODUCTION
Thermally activated batteries, commonly known as "thermal batteries", are batteries that can be activated by the combustion of pyrotechnic compositions.
