INTRODUCTION
Note :
This article is an update of paragraph 6 of the article "Chemical reactors. Principles" written in 1980 by Jacques VILLERMAUX.
In this final section on chemical reactors, we examine the influence of physical kinetics (material and heat transfer) on the operation of multi-phase reactors. Given the industrial importance of this type of reactor, each of them deserves a detailed treatment. The general principles outlined in the previous article
of course remain applicable. We only wish to highlight the coupling between chemical reaction and transport phenomena. In particular, the latter is involved in modifying the expression of the apparent reaction velocity given in the characteristic reactor equations.
