INTRODUCTION
In a crystalline solid, according to Hooke's law, elastic deformation is proportional to the applied stress, and the coefficient of proportionality is Young's modulus. Poisson's ratio is the (negative) ratio between lateral and axial stresses. Knowing two of these elasticity coefficients will enable us to fully define the relationship between stress and strain.
