4. Chiral liquid crystals
Although often close to the mesophases already described, liquid crystals formed from chiral molecules (or doped with chiral impurities) are of particular importance in terms of their physics and applications. A chiral mesogenic molecule is generally obtained by introducing a carbon with four different substituents (asymmetric carbon).
