As information systems become increasingly heterogeneous and distributed, they need to be supervised in a unified way. This is the aim of the DMTF (Distributed Management Task Force) and its associated standards and working groups. Here, we present the DMTF initiative and its work known as the WBEM (Web Based Enterprise Management) and CIM (Common Information Model) standards.

The DMTF is an industry-led organization promoting the development and unification of management standards for the enterprise and the Internet. The aim is to develop interoperability standards between the various management solutions on the market. The DMTF's founding members are : Cisco, Compaq, Intel and Microsoft.
