1. On-board databases
An embedded DBMS is a DBMS incorporated directly into an application
(
[W7]). Embedded
databases can therefore be considered as encapsulated within applications,
and transparent to the application user.
Nota
This definition, which we use in this article, is sometimes contradicted
in the literature. For example, embedded DBMSs are sometimes synonymous
with DBMSs in embedded systems, and are therefore linked to all the
problems associated with this type of system (autonomous system, linked
to a specific task, etc.)
