The program in figure 1 determines the main statistics on a sample of a qualitative variable (e.g. color). It mainly illustrates the vector aspects of Fortran 90, including array constructors, parameter transmission by descriptor, various predefined functions (such as MAXLOC or COUNT), etc. It also presents MODULE as a reliable tool for operating a software service (here, the Q_STATUS procedure).
