6. Conclusion
Drones offer an extremely wide range of applications. However, these applications have not developed as quickly as many observers predicted. One of the reasons for this is the safety challenge they face: to be very safe, while keeping their price within a range that remains attractive for the uses envisaged. In this field, resilience - the ability to continue one's mission despite the hazards that inevitably arise - is a fundamental element. And yet, even if ideas, approaches and proofs of concept have been put forward, much remains to be done in this field.
The challenges concern both the method – to develop a holistic approach to understanding resilience as a whole – and the technologies to address the case of wind gusts, GNSS disturbances, actuator blockages, etc.
Only then will drones be able to really spread their wings and deliver...
