3. Basics of running dynamics behaviour
This section deals first with fundamentals of running behaviour
in tangent track and curve negotiation ability, including design parameters
and operation conditions affecting curving behaviour. Flange climbing
mechanism and key design and service parameters affecting derailment
due to flange climbing are described as well. Finally the impact of
the track geometry and of the vehicle maintenance status/health on
the vehicle-track loads is discussed.
Running behaviour on straight track and the curve negotiation
asks for contradictory design parameters and/or architecture solutions.
The challenge of the designer is to assure, for the defined operation
condition, the best trade-off between running in straight track and
