In the context of a software application, we would say that a failure occurs as soon as the behavior of the software application does not conform to its specification. This means that the failure of a software application can be detected by analyzing the application's output.
Since a software application does not wear out (no degradation), but can age, application failure is systematic. Failure is linked to one or more errors. Errors are internal to the software application and result from the propagation of other errors or the activation of a fault. A fault is precisely localized in a part of the software application.
