13. Effects of finite precision

In practice, calculations are carried out with finite precision, and each operation is subject to an error due to the arithmetic of the computer used. The accumulation of such errors can distort the results obtained, sometimes extremely significantly. It is therefore essential to analyze these errors either theoretically, by giving them an upper limit (which is often pessimistic), or by studying them statistically [33] .
