2.1 Polymorphism and allotropy

Crystalline polymorphism is commonly defined as the ability of a molecule to crystallize in different crystal systems 4 . In the case of simple bodies (atoms), we speak of allotropy (a concept introduced by the Swedish chemist Berzelius).
