1. Chemical kinetics
Chemical kinetics is the study of gaseous, liquid or solid chemical systems whose composition changes with time. A homogeneous system comprises just one phase, while a system evolving at the interface of two phases is said to be heterogeneous. The kinetics discussed here mainly concern the homogeneous gas phase. Figure 1 highlights the kinetic aspect of the problem. As shown in figure 1 , both kinetic and thermodynamic data can be obtained experimentally, but if this is not possible, we will have to resort to more or less rough estimates, or to molecular modeling calculations, which can be found under the headings of theoretical chemistry or quantum chemistry.
