5. Conclusion

Producing energy from renewable sources is a necessity that can only become more urgent under the combined pressure of the increasing scarcity of hydrocarbons (and therefore their rising cost) and environmental imperatives.

Photoelectric conversion already offers efficiencies that are compatible with large-scale use. These efficiencies are approaching theoretical maximum values, and scientific and technological advances should make it possible to further increase performance and lower the manufacturing costs of thin-film photovoltaic cells.

One of the challenges is integrating this energy source into systems and managing them. Indeed, due to the intermittent nature of photovoltaic panel production, it is necessary either to store this energy, or to inject it into the grid so that it can be used elsewhere.
