2. Main high permittivity materials

The most commonly used high permittivity dielectrics can be classified into a few families, although there are sometimes overlaps. Hereafter, we discuss some examples of classical and relaxor – ferroelectrics, with or without morphotropic phase boundary – and IBLC compounds, as well as composites using either high permittivity ceramics or insulated conductors or organized in a percolative network.

2.1 Ferroelectric

Ferroelectric ceramics are widely used in the development of high permittivity materials. While classical ferroelectrics represent a simple material for understanding physical phenomena, most applications use either solid solutions, to exploit morphotropic phase boundaries, or relaxers, for their rather broad permittivity peak.
