2. Hydrogen production by low-temperature electrolysis

2.1 Alkaline electrolysis

The alkaline electrolyzer, whose basic cell is shown schematically in Figure 1 , consists of two electrodes (anode and cathode), a diaphragm, and an electrolyte. This technology uses a liquid electrolyte, usually an aqueous solution of potassium hydroxide (KOH), whose mass concentration varies with temperature.
