From 1960 onwards, to overcome a number of unforeseen difficulties (resistance, persistence) that had become a cause for concern, knowledge of biochemical modes of action progressed and led to new requirements.

2.1 Resistance to fungicides

Dinocap (figure 7 a ), a decoupling agent specific to powdery mildew, was added to the range of fungicides in 1960. Dithianon (1963) (figure 7 b ) is a quinone with the same mode of action.
