3. Remote manipulators

3.1 Field of application

As the name suggests, a telemanipulator is a machine that enables remote manipulation by an operator. The first application is to keep the operator isolated from a dangerous environment (radioactivity, chemicals, heat or cold, etc.), while allowing him to manipulate objects in this environment. But another application comes from the limitations of handling arms: strokes, speed or loads [see table 2 , note (3)].
