5. Beams

5.1 Definition

Lifting beams are designed to connect a load to a hoist by means of one or more beams fitted with hooks, suction pads or magnets.

Spreader beams are used to handle long, bulky, flexible and very heavy loads.

Depending on the different loads to be picked up, the spreaders can be :

  • single-beam ;

  • H"-shaped (a main beam surmounted by several crossbeams);

  • cross-shaped (two fixed or rotating cross-beams) ;

  • in a frame (square or closed rectangle) ;

  • top-hung by ring or sling ;

  • with fixed or adjustable lower points....
