4.1 Outsource or integrate transportation services

When the shipper uses maritime transport for exports, imports, or coastal shipping, and has entered into a commercial transaction that gives them control over the transport, they must consider how to organize the transport. Unless located on the docks of a port, they must always consider pre-carriage to the port of embarkation or post-carriage from the port of discharge. Several scenarios are possible:

  • it has its own means of transport: a fleet of trucks, barges, etc., and transports goods to the port itself;
