1.1 Definitions

The dynamics of complex systems is a singularly topical subject. Complexity, complex systems and system dynamics are central concepts that need to be clarified. Then we might ask what contribution system dynamics, modeling and simulation can make to probing this complexity and tackling difficult problems.

  • Complexity

    It's a word subject to many interpretations.

    Complexity comes from the Latin "cum" meaning "with" and "plexus" meaning "woven together". Indeed, this concept expresses the diversity of the parts, but above all the interactions that bind them together.
