1.1 Definition of Additive Manufacturing
The NF EN ISO/ASTM 52900 standard defines additive manufacturing as “the set of processes used to manufacture, layer by layer, by adding material, a physical object from a digital model.”
While the term “additive manufacturing (AM)” is now widely accepted, it is not uncommon for other terms to be used when referring to this manufacturing technology. The most common ones—though they may sometimes be considered reductive—are:
