Product: the bare, unpackaged article, object or material leaving the manufacturing or production process.

Packaging: everything sold with the product, but which is not the product itself. Etymologically, packaging comes from the Old German "balla", meaning "to squeeze", with the idea of bundling. Packaging is therefore an assembly of materials designed to protect a product before it is shipped off and subjected to loading and unloading. Packaging is classified as primary, secondary or tertiary according to its use (for consumer use, grouping, transport).
