The aim of this "Maintenance" treatise is therefore, starting from the context described above, to present the state of maintenance thinking as it stands and as it is evolving today, and which, whatever the activity and size of the companies concerned, will lead to new modes of organization and operation marking a profound break with the past.

As part of a precise regulatory and legal framework, this reflection leads to the implementation, within a precise methodological framework, of new methods and tools. In this way, maintenance is helping to shape a new industrial environment, which imposes a new type of work and demands, at all levels, people who are probably fewer in number but necessarily increasingly competent and efficient.
