1. Reliability of mechanical structures

1.1 Introduction

A mechanical structure is designed to meet clearly identified specifications. The aim of structural reliability is to assess the probability that a structure, subjected to hazards, will be able to satisfy all these specifications, for a given service life [AG 4 670] . However, calculating this probability requires a rigorous four-stage study methodology.
