3. Conclusion

In this article, the modeling of continuous media mixtures has been presented using the thermodynamics of irreversible processes: the advantages, limitations and disadvantages of this approach have also been discussed, with mention of a number of alternative models.

This modeling – after timely specialization – is able to account for the behavior of fluid mixtures (perfect gases), fluid/solid mixtures (gases or chemical species diffusing within solid materials, polymers or other), solid/solid mixtures (glassy matrices/fibrous reinforcement). Composite ply behavior can be addressed using this type of modeling; the composite laminate can then be modeled using multilayer plate theory.
