2. Reinforcing thermoplastic resins

The most important development in this field is the emergence of long-fibre reinforced granules (LFG). These significantly improve the mechanical properties of the parts containing them. These products are often referred to as LFT (Long Fiber Thermoplastic). This includes Twintex in its granulated form. Depending on its capacity, an LFT production line costs between €500,000 and €600,000, with an hourly output of between 200 and 450 kg/h. For larger installations, the cost can rise to €900,000.

The cost of machines for injection molding reinforced thermoplastic granules depends, as in the case of thermoset compound molding, on the clamping force of the press and its injection capacity.

By way of comparison with the costs quoted for these materials, a 150 to 200 t press costs around €100,000, while a 1,000 t press is worth around €350,000....
