A wide variety of basic elastomers (see nomenclature table) and ingredients are currently available, offering the rubber chemist infinite formulation possibilities.

Tables 1 , 2 and 3 provide a comparison of the main properties of common elastomers, highlighting their very different behavior under various service conditions. The values given are merely indicative for a common formulation, and optimization must be sought to meet the specifications imposed.
