6. Post-impact fatigue

The effect of a low-energy impact on the mechanical behavior of a composite is still difficult to grasp, and depends to a large extent on the volume fraction of fibers within the composite.

For volume fractions of the order of 60%, impacts cause delamination at the interfaces of the plies closest to the impacted zone, without however leaving any apparent manifestations on the composite surface (figure 28 ).
