3. Implementation

POMs can be processed on all the usual thermoplastics processing machines: injection presses, extruders, blow molding and compression molding equipment.

General precautions to be observed when using POMs are as follows:

  • the temperature of the molten polymer must not exceed 240 ˚C and, under no circumstances, must the polymer be subjected, for a relatively long time, to temperatures in excess of 220 ˚C. In the event of excessive thermal stress, POMs release formaldehyde gas, the presence of which, even in low concentrations, is indicated by an irritating odor ;

  • the maximum permissible concentration of formaldehyde in the air in workplaces, as recommended by INRS (Institut national de recherche et de sécurité), is 1 ppm (by volume);
