2. Analyze physico-chemical characteristics

For liquids, shape, viscosity and other physico-chemical factors, such as volatility and solubility in water or fats, as well as density must be taken into account. These characteristics are described in section 9 of the SDS.

2.1 Volatility

Volatility is the ability of a substance to diffuse into the ambient air, penetrating the lungs or depositing on the skin. It depends on the boiling temperature and vapor pressure of the liquid.

  • Boiling temperature: There's no strict relationship between a liquid's volatility and its boiling temperature, but this parameter can be used to make an initial estimate. However, liquids with higher boiling temperatures volatilize more slowly than those with lower boiling temperatures....
