6. Perspectives and conclusions
The effects of earthquakes on structures show the extent of the complexity of the phenomena involved when dynamic and, moreover, seismic loads are involved.
Nevertheless, the progress made in methods and tools for taking these effects into account in the design of structures, such as the soil-structure interaction (SSI) principle, is indisputable.
In order to be able to quantify seismic effects for engineering purposes, the ISS subject is arbitrarily but appropriately split into two themes: inertial effects, which are the subject of a specific development in the article
