Crises, however, are not necessarily caused by a major event. Nor will the field in which they develop serve to characterize them. They could be industrial, economic, food, financial, social or humanitarian crises...

Crises appear to have a life of their own. However, they are characterized by scale and sheer numbers: in terms of players, victims, regions or countries involved, not to mention analysis commissions, expert reports and so on.
