6. How to find out if a property is classified

6.1 General

Goods, software and technologies are classified by major families – or categories – in the BDU List.

The first step in determining the status of a high-tech good to be exported is to "translate" its sometimes emphatic technical-commercial designation into a "regulatory" designation. It is this latter designation that will be used in dealings with the Administration and customs services to avoid misunderstandings.

In this respect, it is essential to refer to the list of definitions and the general notes for a correct interpretation of the terms.

As for software and technologies, they are systematically associated with goods by the nature code (a capital letter) defined above.
