5. Methods for characterizing endocrine disruptors

All available information on a chemical substance is used to characterize its endocrine disrupting potential, from the study of chemical formulations to tests on whole organisms.

5.1 In silico or crystallographic methods

They involve the study of structure-activity relationships (QSAR) and the modeling of ligand-receptor binding.

The QSAR (Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship) method is the establishment of a quantitative relationship between a chemical structure and an activity in the form of chemical reactivity or biological activity (for example, the presence of benzene rings with an HO function in the chemical structure, as in the case of estradiol shown in figure
