1.1 The networked company

The company's network infrastructure is based on a private local area network (LAN) and a more public remote area network (MAN and WAN), managed by shared services, usually offered by operators.

The transition from "proprietary" and "local" IT to a global, interconnected system is forcing companies to question their information security in the face of new internal and external vulnerabilities.
