4. Boosting the phenol/formaldehyde reaction

This is not a famous accident, but a frequent one, usually resulting in the explosion of the reactor following an extremely violent reaction.

Naturally, these accidents have claimed many victims and caused the loss of many workshops. The lack of media impact of these accidents is due to the fact that a reactor explosion is better tolerated by neighboring populations than the surrounding dispersion of an aerosol of reaction mixture.

It's not certain that all industrialists using this process are fully aware of the risks involved, so it's worth recalling here the circumstances of this accident, which always happens the same way.
