5. Conclusion

The industrial risk management approaches associated with floods, earthquakes and lightning illustrate the diversity of technical issues to be taken into account when identifying NaTech accident sequences. For each natural hazard, it is important to be able to distinguish the most sensitive points and examine them in greater depth. Given the paucity of experience, this identification is based more on a risk analysis exercise.

The diversity of natural stresses and the means of protection against them logically leads to very different NaTech risk management strategies for each natural hazard. The ability to forecast natural phenomena is a decisive factor in the choice of overall strategy, given the time available before the actual occurrence of the phenomenon, which can largely be used to secure installations.
