1.1 Male reproductive system
The Male Reproductive System, or male genitalia, is made up of three parts.
The first is a system for producing gametes, the spermatozoa, which carry the genetic heritage. Sertoli cells ensure sperm nutrition and maintenance. Leydig cells perform an endocrine function (mainly testosterone secretion). The testes are located in bursae outside the body (the scrotum).
The second is a system of accessory glands, such as the prostate, seminal vesicles and Cooper's glands, which secrete fluids and substances that make up semen (a viscous, whitish fluid containing sperm) to promote sperm movement.
