4. Reduce exposure situations

4.1 Reducing employee exposure to asbestos fibers

Three avenues can be explored:

  • reduce the asbestos content of the work atmospheres in which these workers work; this can be achieved by moving the operator away from the source, using remote-controlled or radio-controlled tools;

  • increase the protection factors of respiratory protective equipment worn (e.g. by using ventilated, particle-tight protective clothing); it should be noted that these ventilated, particle-tight garments have been little used up to now, as air-supplied insulating equipment was sufficient for level 3; the FPA of these garments is currently being determined by INRS;

  • reduce the time workers spend...
