2.1.1 General

The toxicity of a substance depends on the notion of dose, i.e. the concentration of the substance and the exposure time. The effects of a toxicant may be immediate or delayed, whatever the type of exposure considered, and correspond to a tenability in relation to a given effect. In general, the effects considered are :
