Depending on their architecture (front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive or 4 x 4), motor vehicles are equipped with different types of transmission. Figure 1 shows an example of a 4x4 vehicle equipped with lateral transmissions (front and rear), as well as a longitudinal transmission.
